Producer and star Margot Robbie leads the joyous chaos that is “I, Tonya.” The use of mock interview as well as having the characters regularly break the fourth wall turns a notorious sports scandal into a dramedy. With excellent writing and direction from Steven Rogers and Craig Gillespie respectively, the film is able to tackle serious topics with a light and funny tone. There are points in the movie where the actions are so dark, any other film would aim to make the audience tense and horrified, but “I, Tonya” makes you laugh out loud (and so make you question your own morals on how you could be laughing at something so horrible). Though the film is labeled a comedy, it still packs a deep emotional punch, as Robbie is able to deliver a hilarious and heartbreaking performance simultaneously.
